Abstract
1005 cases of night-time emergency operations were recorded in Dong San Medical Center for the period of June 1983 to May 1984.

This study was primarily intended to assess the workload and problems’ then provide a better idea as to the planning of operation schedules more efficiently.

The cases were classified in terms of sex, age, types of surgery, departmental distribution, anesthetic methods, ASA status, weekly and monthly cases, and cases were compared with the statistics of other hospitals.

During the year, the average daily cases for night-time emergency surgery were 2.8 cases. The main types were appendectomy, craniectomy, C-section, repair of traumatized extremities and ectopic pregnancy in that order of frequency, CVP catheterization was performed in 10.8% of the total cases.
