Abstract
Breast cancer is a preventable disease through the secondary prevention. This study was carried out to survey breast cancer screening behaviors in some hospital female employees. Questionnaire survey was administered to all female employees of 2 hospitals (a university hospital and a general hospital) except medical doctors in August 2006. A modified version of the questionnaire developed by Maxwell et al. for American Koreans was used with drop-off survey. Response rate was 73.5% and 877 were used in the final data analysis. In 20-39 years of age, 5.5% reported to have a screening mammography ever while 65.5% in 40-59. Among employees who have ever had screening mammography(n=168), those who reported to have last screening mammography within previous 2 years were 73.0% in 20-39 and 89.3% in 40-59. Those who reported to have professional breast examinations every year were 0.9% in 20-39 and 9.5% in 40-59. These results suggest that hospital employees may have relatively good uptake rates of breast screening mammography with very low clinical examination rate.
