Abstract
The review of a 22-year, from January, 1960 through December, 1981, 943 ovarian tumors revealed as follows: 1. An incidence of ovarian tumor during this period was 13.3% of total operated cases in Obs. & Gyn. Service. 2. Age incidence of all ovarian tumor averaged at 37.5 years, and an average age incidence for the maliganancy was 44.5 years. 3. As to subjective symptoms in all ovarian tumors, lower abdominal pain was noticed in 42.0% of case and lower abdominal mass in 38.4% in benign ovarian tumors, lower abdominal pain was predominating symptom appearing in 42.2% of the cases while lower abdominal mass predominates in malignant ovarian tumors and appear in 59.8% of the cases. 4. Primary sterility was noted in 10.2% of all ovarian tumors and secondary sterility, in 4.7% of the cases. 5. Menarche began at 16 years of age in 29.1% of the cases. 6. There was no great difference between incidence of benign and malignant ovarian tumor as to parity from para 0 to para 4, but the fact that increasing parity parallels increasing incidence of malignant tumor corresponds with the increasing tendency of malignant tumor in the older age. 7. Occurrence of menstrual irregularity among total ovarian tumors was noted in 18.0% of the cases, and that in the benign tumors 17.5% and 24.5%, in malignant tumors. 8. Physical findings: a) Ascites was observed in 15.0% of all ovarian tumors, 12.4% of benign tumors and 36.3% of malignant tumors. b) Cachexia was observed in 9 cases(0.1%). c) Adhesions with the adjacent organs were observed in 31.4% d) The incidence of combination with pregnancy was observed in 10.2%. e) Pedicle torsion of ovarian tumors was noted in 18.8%. 9. Concerning hemoglobin content level, occurrence of subnormal(below 12gm/100ml) level was noted in 48.8%. 10. The incidence of benign tumors was 89.2%, of all ovarian tumor while that of malignant ones, 10.8%. 11. The incidences of benign and malignant tumors among all ovarian tumors were as follows: Serous cystadenoma: 19.9%. Cyst teratoma, benign: 29.7%. Pseudomucinous cystadenoma: 12.7%. Serous cystadenocarcinoma: 1.8%. Pseudomucinous cystadenocarcinoma: 2.0%. 12. An incidence of cystic tumors among benign tumors was 85.4% and an incidence of soild tumors among malignant tumors was 68.4%. 13. As to common size of all ovarian tumors, tumor with the size of an adult`s fist occurred in 30.7% of the cases while one with the size of a head was noted in 36.0% of all malignant tumors. 14. Bilaterality was noted in 15.0% of all ovarian tumor cases, in 13.6% of benign tumors and in 26.5% of malignant tumors. 15. Bilaterality of dermoid cysts was noted in 28.9% of serous cyst-adenoma, in 11.2% and of pseudomacinous cystadenma, in 6.7%. 16. Among benign tumors the incidence of serous cystadenomas was 22.4%, that of dermoid cyst, 33.3% and that of pseudomucinous cystadenomas, 14.3%. 17. malignancy on pseudomucinous type was observed in 13.7%, that of serous type, in 8.7% and that of dermoid cyst, in 3.4%.
