Abstract: MPTP (1-methyl-4-phenyl-1, 2, 3, 6-tetrahydropyridine) and its metabolite MPP+ (1-methyl-4-phenyl pyridium) are specific dopaminergic neurotoxins and induce parkisonism-like symptoms and signs in animal models. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of oxidative stress on MPP+ -induced dopaminergic toxicity and the protective effects of antioxidants. PC12 cells were exposed to the dopaminergic neurotoxicity by adding 0.05-10 mM MPP+ for 1-24 hrs. In the cells treated with 2 mM MPP+, cell number decreased and the neurites were markedly withdrawal and the cell viability decreased almost 50%. Nerve growth factor (NGF)-differentiated PC12 cells showed higher viabilities than untreated PC12 cells in 0.1-10 mM MPP+. N-acetyl cysteine (NAC, 0.1-10 mM) showed significant protective effects against the dopaminergic cytotoxicity with 2 mM MPP+, and led to almost complete recovery to normal cells over 3 mM NAC. L-2-oxothiazoline-4-carboxylate (OTC, 0.1-2 mM) showed slightly increased the viability of PC12 cells against the dopaminergic toxicity with 2 mM MPP+. however there was not a significant recovery comparing with normal cells. L-lipoic acid (0.1-2 mM) showed some protective effects on PC12 cells against thd dopaminergic cytotoxicity with 2 mM MPP+, however they did not show a significant recovery comparing with normal PC12 eclls. In conclusion, it seems that oxidative stress participates as an important mechanism in MPP+-include dopaminergic neurotoxicity nad NAC may be a good neuroprotective agent against MPP+ -induced dopaminergic neurotoxicity.</summary>

Abstract: Pure dysarthria is a type of lacunar infarction. Because previous studies described mainly to the dysarthric patients with central facial paresis or clumsy hand, pure dysarthria without facial paresis or other neurologic deficits, especially in subcortical or pontine infarction, was rare. We studied the patients with subcortical or pontine infarction who presented isolated dysarthria. Among 1, 176 patients with acute stroke collected by the Keimyung Stroke Registry from March 2003 to February 2005, we selected 11 patients who presented with pure dysarthria due to subcortical or pontine infarctions. We identified lesions by diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI), and analyzed cerebrovascular risk factors, lesion locations and prognosis. DWI demonstrated small high signal lesions in the centrum semiovale (n=2), corona radiate (n=3), internal capsule (n=3), and pons (n=3). The most common risk factor for the ischemic stroke with pure dysarthria was hypertension. The lesions mostly located in the left hemisphere. All subjects showed a good recovery from dysarthria. Infarcts causing dysarthria in all patients located along the course of the corticobulbar tract and showed left-sided predominance in supratentorial lesion. Pure dysarthria due to internal capsule lesion could bo caused by a small lesion in the anterior portion of posterior limb.</summary>

Abstract: Definite diagnosis is difficult in patient with tsutsugamushi disease involving neurological system. We report two cases of meningoencephalitis associated with tsutsugamushi disease confirmed by immunochromatographic assay. Two patients were transferred emergency room due to mental confusion during doxycycline medication under tentative diagnosis of tsutsugamushi disease. Neurological examination showed confusion with poor cooperation only. After confirmation of tsutsugamushi meningoencephalitis by immunochromatographic assay for cerebrospinal fluid, they continued doxycycline medication. After 3 days, their symptoms were completely subcided without any neurological sequelae.</summary>

Without reduction of teeth, well-aligned and periodontally healthy teeth were established by orthodontic teatment. This report is about a case of anterior spacing closure in adult patient who was successfully treated with orthodontic braces and bands.</summary>
