This study was performed to investigate the genotypes of human paillomavirus and its multiple infections in patients with cervical adenocarcinoma, and the commercially available HPV DNA chip was used.
Retrospectively cervical specimens of 87 patients with pathologically, confirmed cervical adenocarcinoma were tested for HPV genotyping performed by HPV DNA chip method in Keimyung University Medical School. This study will examined the frequency of human paillomavirus genotypes and its multiple infections
The mean age of 87 patients was 48.7years. Tumors were classified (FIGO staging) as stage I in 63 patients, stage II in 18 patients, and stage III in 6 patients. Among the 87 patients 60 (68.9%) were tested positive for HPV DNA. The most prevelent single HPV infection type was HPV-18 in 34 patients. HPV-16 was detected in 20 patients, HPV-45 in 2 patients, and HPV-52 in 1 patient. Multiple HPV infection were detected in 3 patients, and the majority of the common coinfection were identified as HPV types 16/18.
Our study demonstrates that the positive rate of high risk HPV infection was 68.9% in cervical adenocarcinoma. We found that HPV-18 was the most prevalent, followed by HPV-16, HPV-45 and HPV 52. Multiple HPV infection rate was 5% in cervical adenocarcinoma.
