Abstract

This paper provides a comprehensive review of information about the mini-mental stale examination since its development in 1975 and its utility in Korea. Generally speaking, the test is good as a brief cognitive test. It fulfilled the goal of providing a screening test that quantitatively assesses the severity of cognitive impairment and documents cognitive changes occurring over time. However, it should not be employed in definitely diagnosing dementia by itself. Its Korean version has similar advantages and disadvantages as the mini-mental state examination although it was modified according to cultural and educational backgrounds in Korea.
