Abstract

The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data for developing nursing intervention and elderly welfare by identifying the differences in perception of successful aging among elderly of varying characteristics. The subjects of this study were 312 elderly 65 years old and older, who are attending welfare facilities and Senior Citizen's college attendees in Daegu metropolitan city. The data were collected from August 27, 2009 to October 20, 2009. The instrument for this study was a questionnaire developed by Choi (2005) comprised of 83 questions that measure successful aging in Korean elderly. Paik(2006) analyzed this questionnaire and modified it to 46 questions which was used in this study. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA in SPSS/WIN 17.0 Program. The results of this study are as follows; 1. The perception of successful aging was divided into the five sub-dimensions and the mean value was 3.03, Among the five dimensions, 'Comforts in everyday life' was perceived as the most important one followed by and 'Physical well-being', 'Acceptance of one's actual life', 'Social integration', and 'Sense of efficacy', in that order. 2. As a result of analyzing the difference in perception of successful aging according to the general characteristics of the elderly listed below, statistically significant differences were found within the categories of the age(t=7.37, p=.001), gender(t=2.51, p=.021), education(F=3.39, p=.010) and marital status(t=1.98, p=.047). 3. As result of analyzing the difference in perception of successful aging according to the characteristics related to health of the elderly listed below, statistically significant differences were found within the categories of the subjective health status(F=3.59, p=.029). 4. As result of analyzing the difference in perception of successful aging according to the characteristics related to family and society of the elderly listed below, statistically significant differences were found within the categories of closeness of relationship their children (F=3.32, p=.031), relationship with partner(F=2.03, p=.043), economic status compared with others(F=4.18, p=.016). In conclusion, it was found that the successful aging of elderly were relied more heavily on rational factors such as comforts in everyday life and physical well-being than individual factors such as acceptance of one's actual life, social integration and sense of efficacy. Therefore, it will provide the useful basic data for developing objective program and nursing intervention to enhance the perception of successful aging for the elderly.

본 연구는 노인의 특성에 따른 성공적 노화인식과 차이를 검증함으로써 간호중재 및 노인복지프로그램 개발을 위한 기초자료를 제공하기 위해 시도되었다. 연구대상은 대구광역시에 소재하는 노인복지관 및 노인대학의 65세 이상의 노인 312명이었다. 자료수집 기간은 2009년 8월 27일부터 2009년 10월 20일까지였다. 연구도구는 최혜경(2005)이 개발한 83문항의 ‘성공적인 노화’를 백지은(2006)이 요인분석하여 추출한 46문항의 도구를 사용하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS/WIN 17.0 PC+통계 프로그램을 이용하여 빈도, 백분율, 평균, 표준편차를 산출하고 t-test와 ANOVA로 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 대상자의 성공적 노화인식에 대한 평균점수는 3.03점이었고, 하위척도인 5개의 구성차원 중 ‘일상의 안녕’ 차원을 가장 중요하게 인식하였다. 그 다음으로 ‘물리적 안녕’, ‘현실수용’, ‘사회통합’, ‘효능감’ 차원 순으로 중요하게 여기는 것으로 나타났다. 2. 일반적 특성에 따른 대상자의 성공적 노화인식의 차이를 검증한 결과, 연령(t=7.37, p=.001), 성별(t=2.51, p=.021), 학력(F=3.39, p=.010), 배우자(t=1.98, p=.047)에 따라 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 3. 건강관련 특성에 따른 대상자의 성공적 노화인식의 차이를 검증한 결과, 주관적 건강상태(F=3.59, p=.029)에 따라 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 4. 가족 및 사회적 특성에 따른 대상자의 성공적 노화인식의 차이를 검증한 결과, 자녀와의 친밀정도(F=3.32, p=.031), 동거인 유무(F=2.03, p=.043), 타인과의 경제상태 비교(F=4.18, p=.016)에 따라 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 결론적으로 성공적 노화의 인식은 일상의 안녕, 물리적 안녕차원의 관계상황이 현실수용 사회통합, 효능감차원의 개인적인 요소 보다는 중요하게 여기고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서, 이러한 결과는 노인의 성공적 노화 인식을 높이기 위한 구체적인 프로그램 개발 및 간호중재 개발에 유용한 기초자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.
