- Abstract
- The study was conducted to evaluate the health condition by the laboratory screening tests as well as to fing out the factors influencing the tests with 600 subjects who were selected over 20 years of age by the multistage cluster sampling method in Taegu city 1986. In males, the means of RBC, WBC, BUN and bilirubin were remarkably low compared with the national standards of mean while those of creatinine, total protein, albumin, cholesterol, ALP,AST,and ALT were prominantly high. The means of RBC, Hb, Ht, WBC, Ca, blood sugar, BUN and bilirubin in females were very low, but those of total protein and cholesterol were much higher than the national standards of the same sex. All items included is this survey were higher in males than in females except for total protein which showed a slight higher means in females. Albumin was decreased with age in both sexes but cholesterol, ALO, AST and ALT were increased on the contrary. In comparison with the education level, the more higly educated subjects were, the higher CBC, protein and albumin were while the lower ALP, AST and ALT were. The alcohol intake increased the means of RBC, Hb, Ht, WBC, protein, cholesterol, AST and ALT but decreased those of P, albumin and bilirubin. CBC and cholesterol were increased with the frequency of cigarette smoking while BUN, P, cretinine and bilirubin were decreased, and the amount of animal protein intake appeared to have little influence on the CBC and SMA-IIc results. The normal findings of EKG were found 74% in males and 85% in females, and 15% of males and 8.2% of females showed the suggestive myocardial damage. Not definite changes were found 9% in males and 5.4% in females and definite evidence of myocardial damage 2.2% and 1.6% respectively.
