- Abstract
- This study was made in order to understand the changes involved with glucose-6-phsophate isomerase(GPI) and fructose-1, 6-bisphosphate aldolase(ALS) activities in regenerating rat liver Cytosolic, mitochondrial and microsomal GPI and ALS activities were determined in regenerating liver tissue following 70%(median and left lateral lobes) partial hepatectomy in rats for a period of ten days The activities of these enzymes in serum were also measured.
The activities of cytosolic and microsomal GPI in regenerating rat liver tissue showed a significant increase from the twelfth hour to the sixth day, and the from twelfth hour to the first day, respectively, following the partial hepatectomy. However, the mitochondrial GPI activity did not change
The activities of both cytosolic and mitochondrial ALS m regenerating rat liver tissue showed a significant increase
from the first day to the second day following the partial hepatectomy. However, microsomal ALS in regenerating liver tissue increased significantly from the twelfth hour to the second day following the partial hepatectomy.
The activities of both GPI and ALS m rat serum showed a significant increase from the twelfth hour to the third day following the partial hepatectomy.
In view of the above results, the presence of both GPI and ALS in regenerating rat liver suggest the enzymes increase their biosynthesis tn the regenerating stage
