- Abstract
- Actinomycosis is a chronic suppurative and granulomatous infection caused by anaerobic or microphilic bacteria primarily from the genus Actinomyces . The presence of abdominal actinomycosis is at a maximum of 25%, whereas renal involvement appears only sporadically. All levels of the urogenital tract can be infected. Renal involvement manifests as pyelonephritis, renal carbuncle or renal mass. But renal abscess is a rare form of actinomycosis. We report here on a case of renal abscess by Actinomyces. The patient did not have any familial and medical histories. The abdominopelvic computed tomography scan showed about 50 x 43 mm sized multiseptated fluid collection with septation and thickened wall on left kidney. The patient recovered well with antibiotics alone. Long-term therapy with penicillin resulted in a clinical cures.
