- Abstract
- Although malignancy of the thyroid is common,
fibrosarcoma is extremely rare, occurring in less than
1% of all thyroid malignancies.1–3 Fibrosarcoma originates
from the fibroblast and usually arises spontaneously, but
radiation and trauma have been implicated as possible
etiologic factors. Although it can occur at any age, it is
more common in adults between 40 and 70 years of age,
and it is unilateral but nodular.3 We recently treated a 31-
year-old patient with this unusual form of thyroid
malignancy and believe that because of the rarity of the
tumour, the case should be reported.
