THE IMPROVEMENT in the quality of preservation of donor lungs is required to increase the availability of donor lungs as well as to improve early postoperative lung function. 1,2 The aim of this study was to examine the ultrastructural features of the pulmonary epithelial and endothelial cell changes after preservation and reperfusion using the low potassium dextran glucose (LPDG) solution and to evaluate the effects of prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) and verapamil (VP) in the process of preservation and reperfu- sion.
