- Abstract
- Choristoma is defined a mass of tissue histologically normal for an organ or part of the body other than the site which it is located. Especially, salivary gland choristoma of the middle ear is defined, salivary gland tissue is located at middle ear is a rare entity. It is associated with developmental anomalies of the facial nerve and ossicular chain.
In 1961 Taylor and Martin described the fist salivary gland choristoma of the middle ear in a patient with a history of a unilateral conductive hearing loss since birth. Since this initial description, there have been a dozen of subsequent reports of salivary gland choristoma within th middle ear but this kind of report has never been reported in our country.
The authors recently experienced a case of salivary gland choristoma of the middle ear associated with anomalies of the facial nerve and ossicular chain in 17 year old female patient with unilateral conductive hearing loss since birth and report this case with review of the literatures.
