소극적 안락사에 대한 의료인의 태도

Abstract

Background ' The euthanasia debate has become increasingly active in recent years. Technological advances have made it possible to prolong the life almost indefinitely. Medical decisions concerning the prolongation of life, the right to die and euthanasia are among the most extensively discussed issues within medicine and law today. This study examines the attitudes of physicians toward euthanasia.

Methods : The qustionnaire was mailed to 550 physicians. Data was analyzed from the 117 physicians who were completed and returned the form.

Results ! The findings suggest that buddist tend to support euthanasia than others. Surgeon tend to agree with euthanasia than internal medicine doctors.

Conclusions : Passive euthanasia is more acceptable to the majority of the respondents and they are more disturbed by active euthanasia. Physician can no longer afford to be indifferent about the euthanasia and must actively participate in the debates about euthanasia. (J Koran Acad Fam Med 1995 ; 16 : 874—879)

연구배경 ： 의료 기술의 발전으로 인하여 소생 불가능한 환자의 생명 연장이 가능해지고 환자의 죽을 권리나 환자 가족의 죽음에 대한 동의 및 의사의 안락사 방조와 관련된 법적이고 윤리적인 문제가 대두되고 있어，의사들이 환자의 죽음을 대할때 가지게 되는 안락사에 대한 태도와 가치관을 파악하기 위해 본 연구를 시행하였다.

방법 ： 의사들의 안락사에 대한 태도를 조사하기 위해 일개 도시 종합병원과 개인병원에 근무하는 의사들에게 설문지를 배부하여 작성이 완료된 117명을 대상으로 안락사에 대한 태도와 가치관을 통계 분석하였다.

결과 ： 환자나 환자 가족에게 안락사를 요구받았을 경우는 나이가 많을수록, 불교도 일 수록, 외과계가 내과계보다 높은 빈도로 안락사를 시행하겠다고 답하였고 안락사에 대한 법률 제정이 필요하다고 답했다.

결론 ： 본 연구에서 많은수의 응답자가 수동적인 안락사에 대해서는 긍정적인 태도를 보인 반면 능동적인 안락사에는 부정적인 태도를 나타내었다. 따라서, 의료윤리와 장기이식과 관계가 있는 안락사에 대한 의료인의 논의가 필요하며 안락사에 대한 법제정에 의료인의 적극적인 참여가 필요할 것으로 생각된다. (가정의학회지 1995:16： 874-8795
