- Abstract
- Eighty healthy adult training subjects and 30 resting controls were investigated in Kouk Sun Do World Federation, Seoul, Korea from March 1 to May 1,1995. In order to examine psychoneu-roimmunotogical effects of dahnjeon breathing session for 80 minutes, a standard anxiety scale (The state-Trait Anxiety Inventory; Spieberger 1970) and 5 cc saliva samples were collected before and right after the training. In study group there were significant changes in anxiety scores (p=0.000) and secretory immunoglobulin A (s-IgA) levels (p=0.000) but not in Cortisol levels (p=0.216). Anxiety scores were L3 times decreased and s-IgA levels were increased 1.8 times right after the training. However there were no significant changes in resting group. This findings were independent from health habits, nutritional status, and training characteristics of subjects. These results suggest that dahnjeon breathing session might be a moderate psychophysical training for immune stimulation as well as emotional comfort.
