- Abstract
- Urinary retention or a urinary tract stone is rarely associated with ureter rupture. We report on a rare case of a ureter rupture caused by a urinary tract stone in a patient without traumatic history or underlying genitourinary disease. An 80-year-old male presented to the emergency department complaining of a sudden onset of left upper quadrant abdominal pain one hour earlier. He had a background of hypertension, old cerebral infarction, and unstable angina. He had no history of other trauma within the past several days. Abdominal computed tomography showed a stone at the left ureterovesical junction and a rupture at the left proximal ureter in the retroperitoneal cavity. Early identification by use of delayed phase (DP) computed tomography of a ureter rupture caused by a urinary tract stone may avoid a missed diagnosis and may prevent development of complication due to the ureter rupture. The clinical presentations and radiologic findings of a ureter rupture
caused by a urinary tract stone are presented along with a review of the literature.
