- Abstract
- From January, 1986 to Decomber 31, 1992, 276 cases diagnosed and 181 delivered cases by Cesarean section for placenta previa among toal deliveries of 25,424 cases in Keimyung University Hospital were reviewed: The incidence of placenta previa was one per ninty two deliveries (1.07%). The placenta previa has occurred more often in multiparous (60%) than primigravida(40%). The incidence of the emergency Cesarean section delivery for placenta previa was more than elective Cesarean section delivery. The types of the placenta previa included 97 cases of totalis(53%), 51 cases of partialis(28%), 28 cases of marginalis(15%), 9 cases of low lying(4%). The type of the operation procedures for placenta previa included 179 cases of low seg. transverse incision (98%), no case of classical incision(0%), 3 cases of inverted T incision (2%). The postoperative procedure for complicated Cesarean section was 8 cases of hypogastric artery ligation (4%), 3 cases of Cesarean hysterectomy (1%), no case of reopen. The fetal presentation were noted in 156 cases of vertex(86%), 17 cases of breech (10%), 8 cases of transverse(4%). The first sign in patients of the placenta previa was vaginal bleeding in 65 cases, vaginal discharge in 5 cases, incidental finding by sonography in 105 cases, and found during Cesarean section in 6 cases. There was no maternal motality in our study and the fetal complication was noted in 18 cases of fetal death in utero (9.9%), 49 cases of prematurity (27%), 1 case of congenital anomaly(0.1%).
