- Abstract
- Objectives:The aims of this study were to investigate the characteristics of intertemporal choice in methamphetamine users and to examine the relationship among intertemporal choice, impulsivity and working memory.
Methods:Methamphetamine users(n=37) and normal controls(n=41) were recruited. Intertemporal choice, working memory and impulsivity were assessed with the Delay Discounting Task(DDT), the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), Barratt Impulsiveness scale(BIS).
Results:The indifference point of DDT in methamphetamine users showed significant increase compared to the control group. Methamphetamine users showed higher total score on the BIS, non-planning and motor subscale and poor performance on the WCST. Statistical analysis showed no evidence of an association among value depreciation, working memory and impulsivity.
Conclusion:Methamphetamine users showed delayed discounting at intertemporal choice. There was no significant correlation among delayed discounting, impaired working memory and self- report measure of impulsivity.
