- Abstract
- Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to examine the preliminary efficacy of an SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) communication program and to examine on communication clarity, communication confidence, and clinical performance in pediatric nurses.
Methods:
This study used a one-group pre-post test design to examine the preliminary efficacy of the education program using SBAR. The SBAR program consisted of three steps (lecture, video observation, and simulation) and was applied for 30 minutes to the intervention group. The participants were 30 pediatric nurses from one metropolitan city in Korea. Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires (communication clarity scale, communication confidence scale, and clinical performance checklist) on October 30, 2023. Data were analyzed using frequencies and paired t-tests with the SPSS Win 23.0 program.
Results:
After the education program using SBAR, communication clarity (t=-5.26, p<.001), communication confidence (t=-5.67, p<.001), and clinical performance (t=-2.67, p=.012) showed preliminary efficacy of improvement among pediatric nurses.
Conclusion:
These findings provide valuable insights into the potential benefits of SBAR-based education and suggest its applicability in pediatric nurse education.
